Where the rate comes from

When the page loads, your browser requests the euro foreign exchange reference rates of the European Central Bank (ECB) from api.frankfurter.dev, a free service that republishes them. The request is the same for every visitor: it does not contain your amount or the currencies you picked. Under the result you see the date the rates apply to and the time your browser fetched them.

The ECB sets its reference rates once per working day, at around 16:00 Central European Time, and publishes them for information only. They are not live market rates, and they are not the rate you get when you exchange money: banks, card companies and exchange offices add their own margin or fee. The ECB quotes every currency against the euro, so a rate between two other currencies is calculated through the euro.

No rate is built into this page. If the request fails, the converter shows no result instead of an old or made-up number.

USD per MXN = (USD per EUR) ÷ (MXN per EUR)     dollars = pesos × (USD per MXN)

How to convert pesos to dollars: a worked example

With round example rates of 1 EUR = 1.10 USD and 1 EUR = 22 MXN (not the current rates):

  1. USD per MXN = 1.10 ÷ 22 = 0.05. Put the other way, one dollar is 20 pesos.
  2. 1,000 MXN × 0.05 = 50.00 USD.
  3. In the other direction, 50 USD × 20 = 1,000 MXN.

Which peso does this convert?
The Mexican peso (MXN) by default, and the Philippine peso (PHP) if you select it. Those are the two pesos for which the European Central Bank publishes a reference rate. The Argentine, Chilean, Colombian, Cuban, Dominican and Uruguayan pesos are not covered.
How do I convert pesos to dollars by hand?
Divide the peso amount by the number of pesos per dollar. If one dollar is 20 pesos, 1,000 pesos are 1,000 ÷ 20 = 50 dollars.
Is this the rate I get at an exchange office or ATM?
No. Exchange offices, banks and ATMs apply their own rates with a margin, and often a fee. The reference rate shows roughly what the currency is worth, not what a provider will pay you.
